NEW WEBSITE! why

January 25, 2025

Hello oomfies. A while back I decided to hop onto Neocities and make my website. Promised to start posting there, then didn't. I've decided to remake the website using Zonelets, turning it into a blog as I intended.

So the personal web-- that's what I'm doing here-- is a whole thing. Basically, people only visit one or two websites (not me though I'm just like that) with a lot of algorithms, data collection, etc. People didn't like that, so they made their own network instead. I hear this is what it was like in the early days of the internet-- mostly before the dot-com crash, but my zoomer brain is too young to remember that. Sounds fun!

With all that aside, I wanted to give it a go because of three reasons:

  1. I can post what I want
  2. I can make my posts as long as I want
  3. I can post art and announcements in a single place

I don't hate social media. I think having a single place everyone posts in is a good way to find people and communities you like. Importantly, it also goes the other way around; people can find me.

But wouldn't it be nice to have a blog? Wouldn't it be nice if you could write whatever you wanted? Not being limited by a format, restricted by a terms of service, or threated by a mob of robots or angry people? If nothing else, you would have a single, independent place for your content, free from restrictions.

So what you posting?

I mentioned art and blog posts. I'll definitely be doing both. Neocities has a limit of 1 GB for non-supporters. I don't have an income and I want to save my money until I get one, so I'll need to be more considerate with my file sizes and image resolutions. But this shouldn't be a huge problem since most of my files are under a megabyte large; my latest Nuna and Movathhanun reference sheets take up less than half a megabyte. That roughly leaves me with over 1000 images I can post.

To put that in perspective, my oldest art account on the internet is my DeviantArt account, at 6 years old. I've only posted 147 images there in total. I should be making a living by the time I hit the limit, then.

Sorry for the tangent, my brain likes to think. I'll be posting art in the form of blog posts so that I can give them descriptions and arrange and group them however I'd like. I want a section of the site for quickly looking over the art I've made, for those who don't want to go through a bunch of blog posts just to find it.

As for the blog posts, they'll probably center around these few things:

One important personal thing. I have been very silent on the internet. Besides art, I have barely posted about things, and I haven't really talked to anyone on the internet. I'm realizing I have a whole character that I've just been closeting from the internet. And that's bad! The only things you all have had to go off of are posts I made on reddit and Tumblr as a kid, and maybe the occasional post since.

Look. I'm autistic. I was exposed to the internet as a kid. And that's resulted in a lot of trauma. A lot of weird trauma. Me replying to things on Reddit as a teenager and being downvoted to oblivion. Saying dumb things and having grown men toss me around like the seagull in Lighthouse. Posting weird shit! Just making people uncomfortable, regardless of whether they should or shouldn't have been! I've become very secluded and anti-social, and I want to change that. If you could spare me some rambling and maybe even a few dumb mistakes, I could give you a way more intertaining prescence than if I just sat in a corner eating glue.

Can I do this? I don't know. I'll try it out.
